During a council meeting Aug. 23, the Beaumont City Council voted unanimously to renew recycling in the city.

Waste Management recently pulled its recycling service from Beaumont due to its high cost and the limited interest in subscriptions. The move impacted over 500 Beaumont residences.

Ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog girl lookin’ for love! Is Ariel lookin’ in the right place? We sure do hope so! Ariel is a 1-year old, 49.40-pound bloodhound mix. A kind individual originally found Ariel up when she turned up as a stray and then brought her to the Humane Society shelter. She is solid deep-tan with a black muzzle and nicely draped ears.

It’s a double dose of Classic Movie Night this weekend inside the historic Jefferson Theatre (345 Fannin) in downtown Beaumont beginning Friday, Aug. 26, with the Academy Award winning 1987 romantic feature Dirty Dancing followed on Saturday, Aug. 27, by Toy Story 2, with proceeds from that showing benefitting the Orange Shriners.

As our climate stubbornly refuses to recognize fall, one of the signals that fall has arrived (because we couldn’t tell from the temperature) is the different tone movies take. They go from popcorn blockbusters to more action thrillers and dramas beginning in September, leading up to the awards season. This is when the studios premiere their best hopes for nominations, but the best of those usually dribble out between Thanksgiving and the end of the year. Beginning in about two weeks, though, superheroes will take a hiatus until next summer. So long, Superman.
