A Jefferson County SWAT stand-off ended peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 15 at a home near Ridgewood Elementary in Port Neches.

According to information from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, at about 1 p.m. deputies were attempting to serve a warrant in the 2700 block of Merriman when the subject barricaded himself inside the home. Relatives who were home at the time exited the premises, and following a short stand-off, the man surrendered peacefully to SWAT officers.

The Department of Public Safety released a statement on its enforcement effort operations for violations of the Move Over/Slow Down law across the state. Among these operations, one is planned to take place in the Beaumont District on Wednesday, Jan. 16. 

The law states that drivers must vacate the lane closest to the applicable vehicles stopped on the side of the road if the road has multiple lanes traveling in the same direction, or slow down to 20 mph below the speed limit. If the speed limit is below 25 mph, the driver must slow down to 5 mph.

Orange County Commissioners Court updated the Orange County Transportation policy effective January 15. The public transportation service of the SETRPC (Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission) will have an increase in transportation fares, with rides now charged as $2 for planned one-way trips and $4 for spontaneous rides in the county, and $3 for a pre-planned  trip to Beaumont and Port Arthur. Fees are decreased if the trip is for a medical-related purpose.

Suspects in an October case of theft

Nederland Police Department is asking for the publics help in identifying two suspects in a case of theft, which occurred Wednesday, Oct. 10 2018.
