Life sometimes hits us with surprise after surprise. This seems especially true the older we become. I go to way too many funerals these days, and seldom a week goes by that I don’t get a call letting me know of the death of a friend or a relative. I said to someone at the funeral home last night, “We really have to quit meeting like this.” My friend laughed as we remembered the last occasion where we visited together.

Big slot reds like this one are being caught under the birds on Sabine Lake.

Good catches of reds and flounder continue to make a whole lot of anglers happy on Sabine Lake. Reds are busting the surface under the birds, trout are beginning to show up under flocks of gulls, and flounder are excellent on the upper end of the lake along the shorelines in 1 to 3 feet of water.

This week, Crime Stoppers needs your help in locating five fugitives wanted for drug charges.

Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s assistance in getting potentially dangerous dope dealers and drug users, along with the poisonous products they carry, off the streets. To that end, The Examiner will feature a list of five persons accused of drug-related crimes each week in High Five.

“Crime Stoppers and The Examiner are teaming up to fight the drug problem in Southeast Texas,” Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley of Crime Stoppers said.
