The Golden Triangle chapter of the Cajun French Music Association Harvest Dance and Gumbo Fundraiser, a celebration of Cajun music and dancing that will support the chapter, is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, from 7-11 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 6621 W. Port Arthur Road, Port Acres.

Ken Marvel and Swamp Rock will perform. Chicken and sausage gumbo with potato salad will be available for $8. There will also be a cakewalk and a dessert table.

BPD plans to cover situational awareness, walking and running safety, home and apartment safety, and identity theft and internet safety.

UPDATED 11:30 a.m., Oct. 14, 2016: Sgt. Cody Guedry with BPD says that many of the details from witness statements regarding this incident are false. According to Guedry, Officer Welch was not involved in the preceding confrontations and not in either of the altercating groups. In addition, reports that the victim was shot in the back were false.

The American Cancer Society saves lives by helping people get well and stay well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer. ACS is doing the most to help Texans fight cancer. In Texas, nearly $36 million is currently invested in research grants. In 2014, cancer patients in Texas received more than 34,762 rides to and from treatment; 1,476 patients and caregivers were provided lodging; and 1,813 woman with cancer learned how to manage the appearance-related side effects of treatment.
