Vidor High School freshman Sierra Leigh-Anne “Si-Si” Phillips died Nov. 11, 2013, when she was struck and killed as she was walking across the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge in Beaumont. Now, months later, her family is still struggling to pay the youth’s funeral expenses and is hoping to create a scholarship in honor of their lost loved one.

A petition for injunctive relief and temporary restraining order was requested Wednesday, April 2, by city resident Melinda Harper against the Beaumont Independent School District due to the agency paying alleged hush money to a former Ozen High School football coach that resigned from the district in Febru­ary.

UPDATE: The Bolivar ferry resumed 24/7 operations as of 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 26. Ferry operators asked that passengers remain in their vehicles during transit as there is still oil in the water.

Efforts to contain and recover oil spilled after a collision that occurred Saturday, March 22, 2014, in the Houston Ship Channel continue with an aggressive deployment of all available response resources, the Coast Guard said in a press release Sunday.
