Gift of Life Program Services Manager Christina Morris, RN provides healthy life

The Avon Breast Health Outreach Program has awarded a $50,000 one-year grant to The Julie Rogers Gift of Life Program to increase awareness of the life-saving benefits of early detection of breast cancer. It is the seventh year that the program has received funding from the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to support its work on this important health issue, and in recognition of the program’s excellence.

The week ends with no new contenders posted on Thursday or Friday for the Beaumont Independent School District Board of Trustees election. However, The Examiner had learned that local philanthropist and businesswoman Mandie Peel is considering a bid for the At-Large post on the BISD dais.

Peel, along with husband Dr. Garrett Peel, is a parent to five – with students in public, private and home schools.

Ten students of LU’s Reaud Honors College are taking on the spring semester with a new perspective thanks to their studies on sustainability in Belize over the winter break.

“It was really eye opening,” said Taylor Marshall, a junior biology major and Spanish minor from Saratoga. “The culture and the wildlife and the challenges that Belize faces were all so new to me, but those same issues affect a lot of people.”
