A pedestrian was pronounced deceased the night of Saturday, Jan. 12, after being hit by a vehicle while crossing College Street. 

According to a statement from Beaumont Police Department, the preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian was attempting to cross College Street when they were struck. The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at St. Elizabeth Hospital with critical injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation that is still on going.

Beaumont firefighters are one the scene at Breakwater Bay Apartments. One unit was damaged in an accidental fire BFD Capt. Scott Wheat said was caused by improperly discarded smoking material. No one was injured and no other units were affected by the blaze.

The Texas Commissionon Environmental Quality has required the city of Kountze to notify water system customers in the Smith Feagin area of a boil water advisory due to a reduced distribution system pressure.

The area affected by the advisory is for customers from north of Villa Road and east of Highway 69, Smith Feagin addition and those out of the city limits extending to FM 420.

Officials recommend boiling water used for drinking, cooking and ice for two minutes prior to consuming to destroy any harmful bacteria present.

The Bridge City Police Department (BCPD), working with the Orange County Sheriff's Office marine division, recovered the body of Darren Wynn Burge, 53, of Bridge City, on Thursday, Jan. 10. 

According to BCPD, a missing person report was filed on Jan. 6 with the police department. Burge had not been seen sincce Jan. 2 between the hours of 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.
