It’s not too late to register for the 10th annual Spindletop Spin, which is set to take place on Saturday, June 6. Registration will be held onsite at the Event Centre lawn (700 Crockett Street) in downtown Beaumont on Friday, June 5, from 3-7 p.m. and 6 a.m. on the morning of the race.

Legacy Christian Academy was chosen as one of 13 participants by Beaumont Mainstreet to design and paint a wooden dog for the annual Dogtoberfest. Mrs. Richardson’s A Day high school art class participated in the making of this piece. The chosen theme was “Disney: From Beginning Times to Now.” The artists painted the transition of Mickey Mouse in black and white to color, gradually adding in the Disney characters to date.

Education First Federal Credit Union named English teacher Nadria Turner of Port Arthur Memorial 9th Grade Academy the recipient of its Golden Apple Educator Award for the month of May. Memorial 9th Grade Academy, an offshoot of Port Arthur Memorial High School, was created in 2011 and serves the culturally diverse population of students from Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson Middle Schools.
