West Lane, Jefferson County, Texas

Shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 1700 block of West Lane initially called in as a “disturbance.” 

During the course of the call for assistance, however, information was received that a baby wasn’t breathing. JCSO deputies, Emergency Services District No. 3 and Acadian Ambulance responded.

John Virden Lewis

Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll reports that officers have identified a deceased man found in a canal as that of 47-year-old John Virden Lewis of Vidor.          

Carroll reports that Lewis was found Tuesday, Aug. 20, at approximately 5:37 p.m., when the Vidor Police Department received a call from an individual in reference to a body floating in the canal near S. Main and Greathouse Road. 

Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton ordered an autopsy. Aug. 23, Carroll reported that Lewis’ tentative cause of death is drowning. 


A man who posted a video of himself licking ice cream from a container of Blue Bell at a Southeast Texas Walmart has been charged and jailed for criminal mischief.

D’Adrien Anderson, 24, of Port Arthur, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, where he remained as of lunchtime Friday.

According to information from the Port Arthur Police Department, detectives had submitted a case for Class A Criminal Mischief to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Aug. 22. 


On Aug. 21, a Jefferson County grand jury indicted five teens for engaging in organized criminal activity after the Beaumont Police Department uncovered a number of stolen firearms during a traffic stop.


Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced Aug. 20 that Charles Grant, 52, of Beaumont, pled guilty to three cases of aggravated sexual assault of a child. Judge Raquel West followed the plea agreement between the state and Grant and sentenced Grant to 45 years in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
