The death that was initially suspected to have been caused by fire at a Lumberton residence has been labeled as a homicide, according to Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins. 

According to police information, 71-year-old Janice Dill Sherwood was found after first responders extinguished a home fire on Thursday, May 23. Following the results of a preliminary autopsy, Sherwood's death was determined to be a result of a homicide.

Following a late night assault of a Sour Lake police officer and subsequent theft of the officer's patrol vehicle on Monday, May 28, one man has been arrested. 

Hardin County Sheriff Mark Davis said after an hours-long manhunt, a 45-year-old suspect who is accused of a brutal assault that left Sour Lake Officer William McKeon in an induced coma is now in custody.

Beaumont police are investigating after responding to a major wreck on Friday, May 24, at about 10:30 p.m.

BPD reports they were called to the 3700 block of West Cardinal Drive and a preliminary investigation showed a vehicle was traveling in the left southbound lane when a bicyclist entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle.

The cyclist was identified as 44-year-old Darrell Henderson. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Beaumont EMS.

A Port Arthur man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 16-year-old outside a convenience store that took place Wednesday, May 22, at about 10:30 p.m.

Port Arthur officers were called to the business in the 200 block of Gulfway Drive in reference to a shooting. Arriving officers immediately located the juvenile victim and determined he had been shot and died on scene as a result of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

A Houston man was killed at the 11th Street Days Inn location Friday, May 24. 

Beaumont police officers were called to the hotel just before 6 a.m. in reference to gunshots. Arriving officcers found a deceased Hispanic male, identified as Jose Manuel Valles-Santos, 27, and a wrecked vehicle at the location.
