The Texas Department of Public Safety reported a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 69 in Tyler County that resulted in the death of a Woodville man.

According to initial reports, a Warren Baptist Church bus was traveling southbound on Highway 68 when a passenger vehicle pulled from a driveway into the path of the oncoming bus. Attempting to avoid a collision, the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle, striking a nearby tree.

UPDATE: On Monday, April 22, Tristan Kavon Jackson, 23, of Beaumont, and Donaldvan Joseph Williams, 24, of Beaumont, presented to the Beaumont Police Department and asked to speak with detectives. The two were considered persons of interest in the shooting at the time. Both men gave statements to detectives with Jackson telling officers he was responsible for shooting Darrell Howard. 

He was arrested for murder and booked into Jefferson County Correctional Facility where he is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

A 26-year-old Beaumont, Texas man has been arrested for federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown.

Bernard James Bell was arrested on April 17 pursuant to a criminal complaint issued by the U.S. District Court charging him with felon in possession of a firearm. Bell appeared in federal court today on the charges.

The Port Arthur Police Department is amping up its efforts to address mental health issues in the community it serves. 

Information from the department states the agency has created a Mental Health Unit supervised by Sgt. Heather Rowe. Included in the unit are several officers that have received specialized training to address those they encounter as they work throughout the city. The objective of the newly created unit is bridge the gap between law enforcement and those suffering from mental illness.

The Port Arthur Police Department is investigating an auto-pedestrian wreck that landed an elderly man in the hospital.

According to PAPD information, officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of Memorial Boulevard on Sunday, April 14, at about 9:30 p.m. in reference to a major vehicle crash. Investigating officers determined a 70-year-old Port Arthur man was struck by a passenger vehicle while riding his bicycle.
