A Port Arthur staple is slated for closure. The owners of Nick’s Grocery at 3149 39th St. announced it would soon shutter its doors. Nick and Dorothy Nicotre opened Nick’s Grocery on Sept. 27, 1959, and it’s still owned by the Nicotre and Plagman families.

The Beaumont Police Department, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office are combating recent violence resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, with two of its latest casualties merely children, a 7-year-old and an 8-year-old.

And at a joint press conference June 20, the law enforcement leaders had a clear message for the perpetrators of violent crime in the city: “We are coming for you.”

The Gift of Life is hosting its final Men’s Health Month Screening site for the month of June in Port Arthur on Saturday, June 24 from 9 a.m. – Noon at the Carl A. Parker Multipurpose Center (1800 Lakeshore Dr.).

"We’re really excited because we’re actually bringing in a Port Arthur native and Super Bowl Champion Joe Washington, Jr. to meet and greet our clients," said Holli Peterson, spokesperson for the Gift of Life.

"Right now, we’re having several people calling and asking us if we’re cancelling our screening due to weather. At this time, we have no plans to cancel."

Sheriff Brian C. Hawthorne reports that on June 20, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Chambers County Sheriff’s Office Covert Investigations Unit and Deputies, assisted by DPS, executed a search warrant in the 500 block of McDermott Street in Winnie, Texas.
