A rehearing has been denied in the case of former Jefferson County employee Donna Davis. The Supreme Court of Texas rejected the county’s request Friday, Jan. 22. 

A Jefferson County jury found in Davis’ favor in March 2014, awarding the ousted employee in excess of $1 million in damages for wrongful termination and age discrimination. The case was filed in Jefferson County in 2008.

As the result of an ongoing corruption investigation in Port Arthur, four suspects were charged with felony theft on Jan. 25 stemming from allegations they were involved in a gas theft scheme involving two former Port Arthur Public Works Department supervisors and two Port Arthur business owners, reports the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office. According to JCDA, all four were an active part of and individually profited from stealing gas from the city of Port Arthur.

John Joslin, constable of Precinct 6 in Liberty County, was arrested Jan. 25, 2016. He’s charged with the offense of perjury in an ongoing investigation by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office, Beaumont Police Department, and the Texas Rangers.

Joslin was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury.

Q. Three years ago, a credit card company filed a lawsuit against me. I answered the lawsuit. I heard nothing for almost two years, until I received a notice of hearing on a motion for summary judgment. Isn’t there a four-year statute of limitations for lawsuits? Shouldn’t this case now be dismissed?
