The world’s older population continues to grow at an unprecedented rate. Today, 8.5 percent of people worldwide (617 million) are aged 65 and over.

According to a new report, “An Aging World: 2015,” this percentage is projected to jump to nearly 17 percent of the world’s population by 2050 (1.6 billion).

The annual Texas Bar-B-Q Festival will be held at Conn Park (166 South St.) in Vidor from Thursday, April 21, through Sunday, April 24. Gates open at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Offering great family fun including Mac’s Carnival & Attractions, vendors and plenty of food, there will also be an IBCA sanctioned barbecue cook-off, horseshoe and washer tournament, plus a diaper derby.
