The faculty, staff and students of Lamar State College – Orange united in an effort to lessen the challenge of hunger in Orange. Through numerous fundraisers campus-wide, LSC-O raised a total of $5,300 to assist five area soup kitchens. Dec. 10, five checks for $1,060 each were presented to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, St. Mary Catholic Church, Salem United Methodist Church, and First Presbyterian Church.

In light of the current climate in America, with tension and violence between law enforcement officers and African-Americans, a community forum at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont on Monday, Dec. 29, allowed residents to have a candid discussion with law enforcement personnel from the Beaumont Police Department, the Port Arthur Police Department, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
