Classic Movie Night continues with the 1952 musical comedy Singin’ in the Rain on Friday, Feb. 12, at the historic Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. Starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds, Singin’ in the Rain is ranked by the American Film Institute as the greatest musical movie of all time, and it was among the first 25 films chosen for preservation by the National Film Registry.

An obvious fan letter to the golden age of Hollywood — or pretty close to it — this won’t go down as one of the best Coen Brothers movies, but it is a lot of silly fun. Set in the ’50s at the fictitious Capitol Pictures, all of the genres popular to the big studios during that era are represented in grand style with tongue firmly pressed against cheek.
