The Vautrots believe in big smiles and bigger proportions. They have been serving up this family tradition for more than 21 years. The resilient restaurant, Vautrot’s Cajun Cuisine, is a testament to the family’s spirit – having survived four disasters: a flood, two hurricanes, and most recently, a devastating fire.

Artist Andy Coughlan will bring a slice of the English landscape to Beaumont in September as part of the exhibition “Boadicea in Albion,” Sept. 13-26. The exhibition will open with a reception, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sept. 13.

Even if you do not often eat them, I’ll bet you would like the way they add elegance to your garden spaces. The oh-so-interesting artichoke is simply a showstopper in full bloom. It will spread into a huge silvery green fountain-shaped vegetable. And you could try dipping those artichoke leaves into some butter and then eating that tender artichoke heart. The artichoke is a goldmine of rich, earthy, hearty flavor.

Another lucky angler has caught one of the tagged reds released by the CCA/STAR tournament. At first he didn’t even know the fish was tagged and worth a truck, boat, motor and trailer. But when he took a closer look at the red that had been casually tossed up on the bank, Mike Capell soon realized the value of catch.
