The Stark Museum of Art will sponsor forensic artist Lois Gibson for a presentation “The Art of Catching Criminals”, on Thursday, Aug. 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Gibson’s presentation will take place at Lutcher Theater, located at 707 W. Main Avenue in Orange. This event is free and open to the public and is followed by a reception and book signing at the Museum, along with an exhibition celebration of Explore Art: Materials and Methods Revealed.

A seasonal sensation … Once again, the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual fundraiser Spice of the Season to raise money for Leadership Beaumont. This year’s soiree, Cartoonmania, was catered by Carrabba’s Italian restaurant with celebrity waiters dressed as their favorite cartoon characters. As they served guests appetizers, salads, a main course and dessert, they earned tips in Looney Loot.

I’ve written about some really good mid-day summertime speckled trout fishing, but everyone does not enjoy being out in the hot weather. More and more anglers have decided to do their thing during the nighttime. By doing this, their fishing success could be unparalleled without being exposed to the hot August sun. Even though it’s been hot enough to fry eggs on the boat ramp concrete, crappie fishing is about as good as it gets on Sam Rayburn.

“This lake is in magnificent shape, about as good as I’ve seen it in 10 years,” said guide Bill Fondren. “This week I had the Lamar University football coaches out on the lake, and we caught enough crappie to sink the boat.”
