Prejudice is an ugly thing. After decades of struggle to promote equality in these United States of America, we obviously have a more just society than the one we inherited from previous generations. But there is still plenty to be accomplished on the road to equality, despite unmistakable progress.

Greenwood to headline Texas Bar-B-Q Festival

The 30th annual Texas Bar-B-Q Festival presented by the Vidor Chamber of Commerce will be held Sept. 14-16 at Claiborne West Park (4105 North) located between Vidor and Orange, just off I-10.

On Lake Sabine, many anglers have been reporting either hit or miss bird action or too many small fish. This is not uncommon for the early fall. Many times there will be huge schools of speckled trout and or sand trout, but the specks will be undersize. At least they are if the angler launches their boat in Texas.

It’s never too early to get into the deer-hunting mode in Texas. The bow-hunting season opens Sept. 29, and the regular gun season in 239 counties opens Nov. 3. And don’t forget about the kids. The Special Youth Season is open Oct. 27-28. One thing is certain – now is the time to start getting your deer hunting gear in order.
