Bangkok has them now

There is a lot of monkey business in this movie, and I see a trend developing. First, the little pirate monkey in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” and now the cute primate that latches on to the lost boys of “H2.” One thing is for sure: If the show’s not funny, you can always cut to the monkey.

Father/son duo collaborate in AMSET exhibit

Like father, like son … The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) presents Randy and Bryan Welborn: Moments to Remember, the artwork of father/son duo Randy and Bryan Welborn, in Café Arts June 2 through Aug. 7. This exhibition features 15 paintings from the Welborn’s nostalgic painting series Moments to Remember. Randy, a native Southeast Texan who now resides in Kountze, captures life growing up in Beaumont during the 1950s.

Cost of freedom has never been truly free

While watching a television newscast with my husband in our home one night recently, I heard the phrase “the cost of freedom” used four times in the one piece. That repetition started a train of thought in my mind that I have been dealing with off and on since hearing the writer of the script’s interruption. What do we mean when we say “the cost of freedom?”
