A quick polling of my pals outside the theater at the conclusion of this latest Star Trek installment revealed that the winner and still champion is the 1982 “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.” It’s hard to beat Ricardo Montalban spewing, “… I spit my last breath at thee.” But that was then and this is now, and one of the best things this franchise has going for it is the reboot that gave Trekkes a whole new — and yes, younger — cast to enjoy.

Hi, my name is Arnie, and I am grateful for all the nice people at Beaumont Animal Services: the animal control officer who found me, the judge who didn’t let my old owners take me back, the kennel staff who give me food every day and keep my kennel clean. I am grateful for my bed. Would you believe my old bed was a pile of wood pallets? I am grateful that I will never have to feel the weight of a chain hanging from my neck again. I am grateful for all of the nice visitors who stop by my kennel, and the volunteers who give me lots of treats!

Ana Reyes

When Ana Reyes began baking Mexican pastries in the garage of her Port Arthur home in 2002, she didn’t realize how popular her delicious breads would ultimately become.

“I would put the breads in my car and go out into the streets and sell them,” she said. “I wanted to open a business, but I didn’t have enough money.”
