Cheech and Chong Perform Nov 4 at the Golden Nugget Lake Charles

Grammy Award winning comedy duo Cheech & Chong return to perform at the Grand Event Center inside the Golden Nugget in Lake Charles on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. The two met in Canada during the late 1960s and began to perform stand up shows, and many of their routines like “Dave’s Not Here,” “Basketball Jones” and “Sister Mary Elephant” became hits on their debut comedy album. Next in 1978 came the first of several movies. Up In Smoke grossed $44 million and spawned two sequels.

The Rocky Horror Show runs at PALT Nov 3 and Nov 4

If you still can get enough of Halloween, there one more weekend of The Rocky Horror Show by Port Arthur Little Theatre (PALT) Tickets for the Friday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 4, shows at 8 p.m. are $25 and can be purchased online at palt.org. Under the local direction of Jeff Courts, the story centers on a young engaged couple whose car breaks down in the rain near a castle where they seek a telephone to call for help. The castle is occupied by strangers in elaborate costumes celebrating an annual convention. They discover the head of the house is Frank N.

Star Trek the Motion Picture official poster

Trekkies will want to “beam up” at this week’s Classic Movie Night at the Jefferson Theatre (345 Fannin St) for the 1979 science fiction film Star Trek: The Motion Picture on Friday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. Directed by Robert Wise, the 132-minute movie was based on the television series and the first installment of the Star Trek film series. It stars the cast of the original television series including Bill Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan and George Takei.

Sound/InSight is an open invitation exhibition inspired by music written for this event at The Art Studio by Lamar University School of Music students and will be on display from Nov. 4-24 with an opening reception on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 7-10 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

“The idea is for artists of any medium to listen to the pieces of music and create a work that is directly inspired by the music,” said Andy Coughlan, curator. “It will be fascinating to see the diversity of interpretations of the work.”
