Like father, like son … The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) presents Randy and Bryan Welborn: Moments to Remember, the artwork of father/son duo Randy and Bryan Welborn, in Café Arts June 2 through Aug. 7. This exhibition features 15 paintings from the Welborn’s nostalgic painting series Moments to Remember. Randy, a native Southeast Texan who now resides in Kountze, captures life growing up in Beaumont during the 1950s.
Star-studded show … Many of the Stars of the Arc Celebrity Style Show participants were glowing as they made their way down the runway while proud parents, friends and guests encouraged them with rounds of applause. The highlight of evening was the presentation of six prestigious awards by emcees Kelli and Bob Phillips. Recipients of these awards wereBecky Ames, Coffy Pieternelle, Sara Leonard, Matthew Bloodsworth, Kirksey’s Sprint Printing and Cindy Bloodsworth.
A force of nature … The American Red Cross will host its annual Hurricane Party with a slightly different twist this year — a luncheon instead of a dinner honoring the inimitableSallye Keith. Arriving at the Beaumont Country Club at 10:30 a.m., guests will mix and mingle with the honoree and enjoy the roving magician, who will perform feats of magic for the crowd. Tariff for this worthwhile fundraiser is $100, and the dress is business casual. The event is a great way to honor someone who has been super supportive of the American Red Cross.
While we harbor no disrespect for the Wall Street Journal who called us “that scrappy little paper from Southeast Texas,” we prefer to think of ourselves as simple seekers of the truth. We’re of the opinion that headlines and sound bites never tell the whole story. Our readers demand all the facts, facets and flavors of every story or event. And, they expect to be informed, educated and stirred to action.
