All the way live … Having fun and raising funds is de rigueur when chairing any fundraiser, and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) achieved that goal and then some with the unveiling of ARTopia last weekend.
Ad man … Michael Lee, owner of the successful advertising agency that bears his name, has embarked on a second chapter in his life. A 2003 trip to France inspired him to paint and now the enterprising artist works in oil on canvas using brushwork and techniques that emulate the late 19th century Impressionist masters. You can see his efforts when Café Arts at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas presents Michael Lee: Second Wind on view in the museum’s café from Thursday, Aug.
Downtown get around … Beaumont Main Street hosted Recreate recently with creative duo Grace Mathis and Lorena Head co-chairing this innovative fundraiser. This fun-filled event combined all art mediums — music, fashion and visual art. Guests noshed on tasty bites and sipped ice-cold beer and wine as they took in all the happenings in and around the historic Fire Museum of Texas.
While we harbor no disrespect for the Wall Street Journal who called us “that scrappy little paper from Southeast Texas,” we prefer to think of ourselves as simple seekers of the truth. We’re of the opinion that headlines and sound bites never tell the whole story. Our readers demand all the facts, facets and flavors of every story or event. And, they expect to be informed, educated and stirred to action.
