Sold-out concert … Local country singer star Tracy Byrd and band Book of Days were a huge draw for our fair city last Friday evening, July 20. The Julie Rogers Theatre was packed and guests seem to enjoy themselves thoroughly with both of the musical entertainers. In the audience were Marci and George Brown, Dona Johnson, Elizabeth Waddill, Mary Jane Benning, Doug Fair, Stephanie and Eric Flatten, Eric Meadows, and Becky and Jerry Conn in from Austin, to name a few.

Summer fun … Anna Kathryn Trevino, Callie Roane and Guiliana Daleo will represent our town as duchesses in Texas Rose Festival in October. These fantastic college girls attended the festival summer parties this past week in Tyler. The theme this year is “Rock the Rose.” The elaborate costumes will be based on music legends. Parents of the trio Stephanie and Bernie Daleo, Kelli and Paul Trevino, and Rachael and Stephen Roane are truly looking forward to this fantastic fall festival.

Musical weekend … Starting Thursday evening at the Event Center, the City of Beaumont once again hosted Jazz at the Lake with Jimmy Simmons followed by The Flava Band. Several hours of magical music was enjoyed by a large group of jazz lovers. Swaying to the sounds of the talented musicians were Virginia and Ralph Jordan, Nancy Cook and Randy Heydenburg, Rozanne and Brian Blount, Scott Holtmyer, Velma Martin, Susan Simmons, Dean Cornwell, Lenny Caballero, Bobbi Wied, Catherine Armstrong and Kit Ohmstede, to name a few.

Man of the hour … Rep. Beto O’Rourke came to town Thursday, May 31, for a fundraiser dinner in his honor and packed the Beaumont Civic Center with supporters. Cocktails were the first thing on the agenda, with Cade Bernsen taking the stage to introduce the honored guest. Russ Waddill also welcomed the enthusiastic crowd to a huge round of applause. Gold sponsors Bernsen Law Firm, Ferguson Law Firm, Provost Umphrey and Reaud, Morgan & Quinn were elated with the turnout and the support from the many guests.

You have to have heart … The American Heart Association hosted its annual Go Red for Women Luncheon recently at the Beaumont Event Centre. The luncheon raises funds for cardiovascular disease and stroke research, awareness and education. This year’s honoree was Pamela St. Amand of Legacy Community Health. Jill Grounds of Cardiac Consultants was the keynote speaker and spoke on the risks of cardiovascular disease for women.
