Community leaders helped volunteers delivered more than 1,200 meals Oct. 17 as part of Nutrition & Services for Seniors fourth annual “Big Wheels” for Meals Day.Community leaders and business owners like Bo Alfred, Pat Avery, Larry and Justice of the Peace Nancy Beaulieu and many others volunteered to help ensure seniors get their lunch-time meal.

This was the second year Jefferson County Commissioner Alfred participated in “Big Wheels,” a service he says is a worthy cause close to his heart.

It’s all about location, location, location. Since 2011, the Swanson’s have been jumping around Beaumont to find the perfect place to expand their brand, and it seems they have found their sweet spot. Owner Ed Grissom says his pub is designed to be a place for people to take a break from the daily grind. “It’s still and always has been, I call it, ‘designed as a diffusion.’ You go out into the world, get stressed out, have anxiety. Isn’t it nice to come into a place and just diffuse?”


The dog days of summer are upon us, and with them come scorching heat and humidity so high it feels like the air itself is sweating! Southeast Texans are all too familiar with the rising temperatures from early May until late September, but while basking in the icy-cold blast of the air conditioning, remember your pets also need escape from the sweltering sun.
