Pleasant visit to Pine Tree Lodge in LaBelle

“Pleasant” is the very first word that comes to mind when you have an enjoyable visit and delicious meal with the Millers at Pine Tree Lodge in LaBelle. First fun thing that happened on our recent visit was that the lady’s voice in our GPS kept repeating “label” for the word “LaBelle,” but we arrived just the same after checking the various directions given for the scenic restaurant along the banks of Taylor Bayou in Southeast Texas.

It’s that time of the year again …

That’s right! It is that time of the year when Southeast Texans clear calendars and make plans to be on hand for one of the most anticipated events in our area — A Tasting for Some Other Place. This year, the plans are bigger and better than ever, and mouths are already watering thinking of what will be available to share with friends and family. Be on hand on Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

What will be our legacy?

My husband, Ted, and I attended the funeral of his sister in law, Aquila Freeman, in Houston on the same day as all newscasts were telling of the horrible murders in Aurora, Colo. Ted’s oldest daughter lives in Aurora and is a movie buff, so of course we called to see if she might have attended the Batman movie the night before. She did not, but she did tell us of chilling scenes taking place just a short distance from her home.
