The loving tribute to my friend of more than half a century, Sarah Grubbs, was written by Sarah’s daughter, Jan Grubbs Beasley. Jan has been married 49 years to Melvin Beasley and has three children and six grandchildren. She is retired from CSX Transportation as senior director, Labor Relations, and has been a children’s Sunday school teacher for 51 years. Sarah changed her address to Heaven on May 13, 2010.
Have a hankering to try something just a bit different or simply want to hang out with friends and family? You might want to factor Starvin Marvin’s at 2310 N. 11th Street in Beaumont into your thinking. Very casual atmosphere, good food, lots of fun, and a big patio to enjoy live music or sit and visit.
Mother’s Day is not just a one-day-a-year thought for Staci Richards, busy mom and business owner. She thinks about it almost every day all year long. And the thinking and work she does often goes on far into many nights, as well. It also involves lots of communication, travel, gift buying, wrapping or packaging, and giving and listening. The stories she hears are amazing and ones she’ll never be able to forget.
While we harbor no disrespect for the Wall Street Journal who called us “that scrappy little paper from Southeast Texas,” we prefer to think of ourselves as simple seekers of the truth. We’re of the opinion that headlines and sound bites never tell the whole story. Our readers demand all the facts, facets and flavors of every story or event. And, they expect to be informed, educated and stirred to action.
