Perfect weather is predicted for Lamar University’s “We Are LU” Homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 4, with a day full of activities beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. when the Cardinal football team hosts Central Arkansas at Provost Umphrey Stadium.

“We are especially excited about Lamar University Homecoming this year as we see it as day of free family fun for our community that is still recovering from Hurricane Harvey,” said Homecoming Committee Chairman Courtney Horton.

Break out the hoodies, gloves and snowcaps … well, it may not be that cold, but it is perfect weather for savory gumbo, and just in time for the second annual Gumbo Cook-Off hosted by the Orange Convention & Visitors Bureau on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Riverfront Pavilion (803 Green Ave).

The Commodores, the United States Navy Band’s premiere jazz band from Washington, D.C., will perform a free concert open to the public Sunday, Oct. 29, in downtown Beaumont at the Julie Rogers Theatre with doors opening at 3 p.m.

Tickets can be picked up at the Beaumont Civic Center box office (701 Main St), limit four per request.

Music fans are in for a treat as a dynamic group of musicians called The Magpie Salute including guitarists Rich Robinson and Marc Ford of The Black Crowes perform in downtown Houston at Revention Music Hall on Friday, Oct. 20 with doors opening for the all ages show opening at 7 p.m.
