Las Vegas continues to dazzle me, no matter how many times a year I get to visit the entertainment mecca of the world. Whether it’s a week stay, a short weekend, or two-day mid-week trip, there’s something for everyone on any day. Though my recent trip was supposed to be three full days, it turned into just two because of flight cancellation due to weather. We made the best of the situation and spent nearly all 48 hours outside the room.

It’s a free concert and fireworks celebration as the Orange Convention & Visitors Bureau hosts its annual Fourth of July celebration Tuesday, July 4, at the Riverfront Boardwalk & Pavilion (601 W. Division) in downtown Orange.

Beginning at 5 p.m., vendors will line the area, offering food, drinks and snow cones as well as plenty of children’s activities. The sky will light up with fireworks at 9 p.m.

Small-town Mississippi rockers 3 Doors Down have gone on to become one of the most successful and popular rock backs of the last 20 years. Forming in 1995, they’ve sold more than 16 million albums, earned three Grammy nominations, won two American Music Awards, and five BMI Pop Awards for songwriting.

Independence Day is right around the corner, and with the Fourth of July this year falling on a Tuesday, it might not be bad to plan ahead as several cities will celebrate the holiday with plenty of activities.

When someone mentions the history of music in Southeast Texas, specifically Beaumont, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the Beaumont Boys, which include Mark Chesnutt, Clay Walker and Tracy Byrd. But it’s much more than just those three talented players, and local concert promoter Johnae Whitaker has put together a gem of a gig to showcase the local talent in Southeast Texas called the OurTyme Music Festival on Saturday, June 24, at the Red Room (near Dixie Dance Hall) on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont.
