Every girl crazy ‘bout a sharp dressed man. Or so says ZZ Top. Here’s your chance to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Saturday, Oct. 22, inside the Grand Event Center at Golden Nugget in Lake Charles at 8 p.m. Tickets for this 21-and-older show are $65-$80 and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com.

The Golden Triangle chapter of the Cajun French Music Association Harvest Dance and Gumbo Fundraiser, a celebration of Cajun music and dancing that will support the chapter, is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, from 7-11 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 6621 W. Port Arthur Road, Port Acres.

Ken Marvel and Swamp Rock will perform. Chicken and sausage gumbo with potato salad will be available for $8. There will also be a cakewalk and a dessert table.

Frozen custard as a dessert first saw commercial success in Coney Island, New York, in 1919, when ice cream vendors Archie and Elton Kohr found that adding egg yolks to ice cream created a smoother texture and helped the ice cream stay cold longer.

In their first weekend on the boardwalk, they sold 18,460 cones, according to the article “Happy Days” by The Village Voice writer Robert Sietsema.

In Texas, nearly $36 million is currently invested in research grants. In 2014, cancer patients in Texas received more than 34,762 rides to and from treatment; 1,476 patients and caregivers were provided lodging; and 1,813 woman with cancer learned how to manage the appearance-related side effects of treatment.
