Although he’s still a young 31 years of age, Tan “Ro” Phung is no stranger to the restaurant business. Phung, originally from Vietnam, came to the States as a baby. He opened Ro’s Seafood in 2008 with his sister Nhi Phung before opening Noah’s Seafood Kitchen in Vidor in 2012.

Phung named the restaurant after his nephew, Noah. Also, Phung’s relatives own Bruce’s Seafood Deli and Gulf Coast Seafood in Port Arthur.

Summer doesn’t officially start until June 20, but as the air outside heats up, so does the local and regional concert calendar. From monster arena shows to outdoor pavilions and pool parties on down to small clubs, the 2017 summer lineup looks to have plenty of variety for music lovers of all kinds.

Beaumont has plenty to look forward to, especially at the downtown venues, as Texas country artists Bruce Robinson and brother Charlie perform on the “My Brother & Me Acoustic Tour” at the Jefferson Theatre on Thursday, July 13, with tickets starting at $25.

The Foreign Cinema Series continues Monday, June 19, with the 2006 Spanish drama Volver at the historic Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont. Directed by Pedro Almodóvar, the Spanish film stars Penélope Cruz as Raimunda, a working-class woman in Madrid along with her husband and 14-year-old daughter. The parents of Raimunda and her sister Paula perished in a fire years ago. After a murder and a family tragedy, Raimunda’s mother’s spirit materializes to help comfort them.

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) is hosting two summer exhibitions — Sherry Owens: Fabric of Life and FRESH: Recent Acquisitions — through Sept. 10 in the main gallery.

Friday, June 16, AMSET will honor the artists and their works at an open reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dallas artist Sherry Owens will give a tour and gallery discussion.

Owens is renowned for her sculptures made of crepe myrtle trees, simultaneously evoking both the natural and otherworldly elements of the tree in her sculptures and installations.

Hurricane Pro Wrestling returns to the Beaumont Civic Center on Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m. Headlining the show will be Hurricane Pro’s longest reigning heavyweight champion, “Sexy” Steve DeMarco, against one of the biggest and baddest indy wrestlers in the sport, “Ruthless” Ryan Davidson.

Hambone and “Bulldog” Justin Walker are the current HPW tag team champions and face challengers Avarice and Germany’s own Heinz Emmerich for the titles.
