The Mexican Heritage Society will host its 47th annual Fiesta on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Bob Bowers Civic Center (3401 Cultural Drive) in Port Arthur. For 47 years, Fiesta, which commemorates Mexico’s independence from Spain, has celebrated Mexican culture in Southeast Texas by sharing the beauty and history of Mexican heritage.

For Vidor High School students of decades past, Mutt & Jeff’s – once located where the district is building its new AIM Center east of campus – was where the cool kids hung out, and a popular place to eat. It didn’t have a lengthy menu, and was known mostly for its Frito pies, served in their original chip bags. You couldn’t miss it.
