Despite ban, city will explode in celebration

Despite the ban on the sale and use of fireworks in Jefferson and the surrounding counties, the show must and will go on!

The city of Beaumont’s traditional Fourth of July celebration with music, concert, food, drinks and the grand finale — fireworks — will be as big, bright and booming as it has been for the last 25 years.

New Wii console in time for Christmas? That’s just great.

Apparently too many consumers are saying, “Wii Who” because Nintendo is launching a new console, Wii U. And you guessed it; the latest and greatest will likely be out just in time for holiday giving. However, some are saying the product won’t be available until first quarter 2012. Either way, parents, prepare for no doubt the marketing campaign to our young’uns that will launch about the time you finish reading this column.

Small characters, big performances

Some of the biggest entertainment this summer in Southeast Texas comes from the smallest of characters – Southeast Texas kids.

Community theaters, like The Betty Greenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Port Arthur Little Theatre and Orange Community Players, offer constructive summertime fun for children, culminating in stage performances for all audiences, and the curtain is about to go up.

Newest comic book rendition comes up short

In this color-coded comic book of a movie, green is good and yellow is bad — very bad — but it hardly adds up to box office gold. It’s not that this is a bad film. There is just nothing new here, and these days to launch a new super hero franchise, something extra is required.

Kid Fest

The popular Kid Fest will return to the Carl Parker Center on the campus of Lamar State College-Port Arthur on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Clear Channel Radio and Valero Port Arthur Refinery have once again teamed up to bring hundreds of kids the opportunity to enjoy activities such as fishing, dancing, face painting, arts and crafts and high-flying acrobatic dunking basketball action.
