Appetites for good food will convene on Friday, March 17 at the 15th annual Saint Joseph’s Day at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica in downtown Beaumont at 700 Jefferson St.

A mouth-watering menu that includes traditional pasta Milanese, fried fish, plus traditional Italian vegetables like Mamie Fertitta’s famous Artichoke and Green Bean Casserole, and Lucille LeBlanc’s Cabbage Fritters, along with bread and dessert, will be served from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. either dine-in or to-go.

For decades, there was a Cajun hangout in Port Acres that was a great retreat for Southeast Texans who enjoyed good music, dancing and spirits after a long workweek. After establishing itself as a staple in the Cajun community for 39 years, the fun ended when it closed in 2004, and Hurricane Rita finished off the famous Rodair Club.

Last summer, the Rodair Roadhouse, which named its restaurant and bar in tribute to Joe Thibodeaux’s famous club, revived his legend and added its own special touch — a great menu of Cajun dishes.

An Evening in Tuscany is the theme for this year’s Heart Ball hosted by the American Heart Association on Saturday, March 11 at the MCM Eleganté beginning at 6 p.m. The Heart Ball is a black-tie event that attracts several hundred community leaders in medicine, business and philanthropy, and is the American Heart Association’s premiere fundraising event in the region to drive critical ongoing cardiovascular and stroke research.

Comedian and impressionist Frank Caliendo will perform at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles on Saturday, March 11, at 8:30 p.m. Caliendo was best known for his work on the FOX weekly comedy show MADtv then for two seasons on his own weekly comedy sketch show Frank TV, which aired on TBS. He also headlined in Las Vegas at the Monte Carlo. Some of Caliendo’s most famous impersonations are of Donald Trump, George W.
