The Galveston Historical Foundation will host the second annual Galveston Heritage Festival on Saturday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. at Kempner Park (2704 Avenue O). Enjoy music, food and entertainment from numerous cultural groups and organizations throughout Texas while learning more about the early days of immigration through the Port of Galveston. This year’s event will also include a Sacred Places Tour that will feature five historic Galveston churches.

Watch out, Waitr! You may have just gained some new competition.

Monday, Aug. 1, Gofer Delivery Enterprises announced the official expansion of its time-saving personal assistant app “Gofer” to Southeast Texas. Residents of the area may now place restaurant and eventually grocery, liquor and dry cleaning orders from their smart phones or computers and have them delivered to their doorstep.

A quick polling of my pals outside the theater at the conclusion of this latest Star Trek installment revealed that the winner and still champion is the 1982 “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.” It’s hard to beat Ricardo Montalban spewing, “… I spit my last breath at thee.” But that was then and this is now, and one of the best things this franchise has going for it is the reboot that gave Trekkes a whole new — and yes, younger — cast to enjoy.

What’s Happening Orange County and the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau will host the third annual National Dance Day event on Saturday, July 30, at the Riverfront Boardwalk and Pavilion, 601 Division Ave. in downtown Orange.

Headlining will be Season 7 winner of So You Think You Can Dance, Lauren Froderman.

The cast is set and rehearsals are finished for Lamar State College Port Arthur’s summer musical Mary Poppins, which begins July 29-31, Aug. 5-7 and Aug. 12-13 at the main theater located inside the Dr. Sam and Linda Monroe Performing Arts Center (1500 Procter St.). Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. with Sunday matinee curtain going up at 2:30 p.m. Ticket reservations are available by calling (409) 984-6111.
