Smart phones and home gaming consoles seem to have all but killed off the old arcades that Gen Xers fondly remember as favorite hangouts after school. And while you still have a few big mega arcades in Houston like Dave & Buster’s and Main Event that cater as much if not more to adults than kids, and the chain arcade Tilt in Beaumont, the mom-and-pop style arcades that you used to see on almost every street corner in the ’80s and ’90s seem to have faded away.

Where were you when the wall came tumbling down? In the fall of 1989, Reagan was in the Oval Office and Eastern Europe was in a free fall. Frankly, I don’t remember where I was when the Berlin Wall finally fell, but as the premise for this movie, it intrigued me from the beginning.

Music fans can relive “Beatlemania” on Saturday, Aug. 5, as the Liverpool Legends Beatles Tribute returns to Beaumont to play the Jefferson Theatre at 7 p.m.

The four talented musicians and actors were handpicked by Louise Harrison, sister of the late George Harrison of The Beatles. Louise’s involvement with Liverpool Legends makes them the only band in the world with a close, direct biological link to the original Fab Four!

The city of Beaumont will host a “Dive-In” movie night at Alice Keith Pool on Saturday, Aug. 5, with the showing of the 2016 animation comedy Sing at dusk. Featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and John C. Reilly, Sing tells the story of a city of humanoid animals, where a hustling theater impresario’s attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as its finalists’ find that their lives will never be the same.
