The first annual Smokin-n-Groves BBQ Cook-off, held on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17, and the third annual Pecan Festival Classic Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 31, will have fun for folks of all ages while benefitting the Groves Senior Citizen Center.

Known as the “fastest athletes on dirt,” thoroughbred horses will return to race at nearby Delta Downs Racetrack & Hotel on Friday, Oct. 16. The 2015-16 season runs through March 12, 2016, and features 86 racing dates with 32 stakes races whose purses total more than $4.6 million.

Racing days are Wednesday-Saturday with a start time of 5:40 p.m. As always, there’s no cost for admission, fans never pay for parking, and the horse track is kid friendly.

Classic Movie Night continues at the Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont on Friday, Oct. 2, with the 1984 release Purple Rain. Written and directed by Albert Magnoli, Purple Rain is a rock musical drama starring Prince, who is a young musician tormented by an abusive situation at home. He must contend with a rival singer, a burgeoning romance and his own dissatisfied band as his star begins to rise.

The 2015-16 season at Lutcher Theater begins Saturday, Oct. 3, with two showings of one of the most enduring shows of all time — Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat — at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $65-$45 and can be purchased online at lutcher.org or by calling (409) 886-5535.
