Spindletop-Gladys City will hold a book signing with author Bartee Haile on Saturday, June 25, at 2 p.m. The book, Texas Boomtowns: A History of Blood and Oil, is his third. It was published in November 2015.

Hurricane Pro Wrestling Champion Danny Ramos

Local independent wrestling organization Hurricane Pro Wrestling returns to the Beaumont Civic Center on Saturday, June 25. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Titled “Evolved,” Hurricane Pro will have five matches headlined by HPW champion Danny Ramons defending the title against Ashton Jacobs. Other matches scheduled to take place are Jordan Jensen vs. Avarice, AJ Rush vs. Kason Cruz, Bulldog & Hambone vs.

The Musical and Potted Potter comes One-Man Star Wars Trilogy for two shows at The Grand in Galveston on Saturday, June 25, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $20-$78 and can be purchased online at thegrand.com. One Man Star Wars Trilogy is an off-Broadway play based on the original Star Wars trilogy, written and performed by Canadian actor Charles Ross.


The High Street Gallery will host an exhibition of photography by Randy Edwards from 7-11 p.m. on Friday, June 24. The gallery is in Victoria House, 2110 Victoria St. in Beaumont.

Edwards describes himself as a Southeast Texas artist with a self-taught hobby in photography. He became interested in darkroom work, falling in love with black and white film photography in high school before attending Lamar University.

Icehouses are a Texas tradition. With origins dating back to the Civil War, they were originally used to store and distribute blocks of ice but began offering beer and other goods that needed to be kept cold, according to the Institute of Texan Cultures. Events were even hosted around massive tables built of ice.

While the open-air icehouse isn’t a new idea, Luke’s Icehouse Mid-County definitely has added a modern twist to an age-old concept.
