Sometimes the best food is in the places you’ve never heard of, and in our quest to find the best food in Southeast Texas, we found a gem of a catfish restaurant in Vidor.

David Aylsworth

The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) has announced two winter exhibitions — David Aylsworth: Either/And and Steve Murphy: It’s All Come Down to This. Both are currently on view now through Feb. 26 in the main galleries, and an opening reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 16, from 6-8 p.m.

Teresa Baker

Visual artist Teresa Baker will host a soft opening/fundraiser for her new downtown Beaumont project space, 215 Orleans, on Thursday, Dec. 15, from 7-10 p.m.

The opening will feature works on paper donated by more than 35 national and local artists, all priced at $50 each. Half of each sale will go to the contributing artist.

Luke Pell

Known for his stint on ABC’s reality hit television show The Bachelorette, Texas native Luke Pell is also a striving country musician who will perform at The Gig on Crockett Street on Thursday, Dec. 22, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Tickets for this 18-and-older show are $15 and can be purchased online at outhousetickets.com. Pell, who is also a veteran and played football at Army, served 12 months in active combat in Afghanistan.

Stoney LaRue

Texas native Stoney LaRue is no stranger to Southeast Texas and the “Red Dirt” country music singer returns to Beaumont to play at the Backyard Music Hall on Saturday, Dec. 17, with doors opening at 8 p.m. for ages 18 and older.
