Meet Dixon, a male terrier/hound mix who weighs about 25 pounds. Dixon is 6-8 months old and has been at the shelter since July 5. He is a happy, fun-loving dog who loves to play and gets along with other dogs. Beaumont Animal Care anticipates he is going to be a medium-size dog topping out at about 30-40 pounds. He is so sweet and very gentle when accepting treats! Go by and check out this guy and give him a home. Meet Dixon at 1884 Pine St., Beaumont, ID No. 30510. Adoption fee is $120 which includes neuter, DHLP, rabies, worming, and flea treatment.

As the Lutcher Theater prepares for the 2017-18 season, the Lutcher Theater Service Guild is seeking individuals interested in volunteering their time and talents to help promote and support the arts and the Lutcher.

This season’s membership drive is to be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Lutcher Theater’s third-floor lobby. The drive is open to the public and all are invited to participate in a theater tour, orientation and dinner.

Canoers and kayakers will abound during the second annual Village Creek Classic Canoe and Kayak Race on Saturday, Aug. 5, beginning at 8 a.m. The Silsbee Chamber of Commerce will host this fundraising event, which begins at Highway 327 and ends at Baby Galvez. There will be free parking at First Baptist Church (350 Highway 96 S.) and shuttle service for participants, boats and spectators. The rental and non-rental entry fee is $40 per person or $75 for parent/child duo in four race categories: Adventure Seeker, Passionate Paddler, Elite Sponsor and Creek Clean-Up.

Music fans can relive “Beatlemania” on Saturday, Aug. 5, as the Liverpool Legends Beatles Tribute returns to Beaumont to play the Jefferson Theatre at 7 p.m.

The four talented musicians and actors were handpicked by Louise Harrison, sister of the late George Harrison of The Beatles. Louise’s involvement with Liverpool Legends makes them the only band in the world with a close, direct biological link to the original Fab Four!

Southeast Texas singer-songwriter Robert Frith will play from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Rodair Roadhouse located at 6701 Jade Ave in Port Arthur. Frith has played at several big musical festivals in the area including the Gulf Coast Jam as well as Janis Joplin Memorial Concert. The diversity of Frith’s original music earned him airplay on radio stations with music formats of pop, rock, classic rock and country. In 2007, he was chosen out of 30,000 contestants as a Regional Finalist for the reality music show Nashville Star on USA Network.
