Lamar University’s Department of Theatre and Dance opens the 2015-16 season with the fast-paced whodunit, “The 39 Steps,” on Sept. 24-27 in the Studio Theatre. Adapted by Patrick Barlow from Alfred Hitchcock’s film, this Tony-Award winning play mixes Hitchcock’s cinematic masterpiece with a juicy spy novel and adds a dash of Monty Python.

The 2015 Hope Women’s Resource Clinic annual gala is set to take place Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 3950 Walden Road, in Beaumont. Tickets start at $100. The gala features guest speaker Kevin Sorbo, as well as an auction, entertainment and food. Proceeds benefit Hope Women’s Resource Clinic in Beaumont.
