Country Music sensation and Southeast Texan Tracy Byrd was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 8 at the Carthage Civic Center. Many friends, family, and fans of Byrd took to Highway 96 making the near three-hour drive to support the artist, who has four gold certifications and one double-platinum certification and has charted more than thirty hit singles in his career, including eleven additional Top 10 hits.

Classic Movie Night continues at the Jefferson Theatre in downtown Beaumont on Thursday, Aug. 6 with the musical-drama Mo Better Blues. Written, produced and directed by Spike Lee, the film debuted in 1990 starring Lee along with Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Giancarlo Esposito, Joie Lee, Cynda Williams and comedian Robin Harris in his final film, who passed five months before.

The Fellowship of Performing Arts presents The Screwtape Letters at the Wortham Center in downtown Houston beginning Thursday, Aug. 13 through Sunday, Aug. 16. The C.L. Lewis novel reveals spiritual warfare from a demon’s point of view.

For the 58th consecutive year, Orange Community Players will open the season with the comedy Lend Me a Tenor. Shows are Aug. 13-15 and Aug. 20-22 at 7:37 p.m., with one matinee Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2:37 p.m.

Written by Ken Ludwig, the show premiered in 1986 and on Broadway in 1989 and received nine Tony nominations, then won two including Best Actor and Best Director.

Pickett House dinner

When I think of my MawMaw, I think of fried chicken. I have lots of memories of her, but the best have always been of when I was young and Sunday dinner after church. She had seven children and every one of them, along with their families, came to Sunday dinner.
