True freshman Lola Bracy came off the bench to score a career-high 24 points, while junior Chastadie Barrs notched her national-best third triple-double of the season as the Lamar Cardinals equaled a school record for points scored in a 116-37 win over the visiting Schreiner Mountaineers in a non-conference women’s basketball game at the Montagne Center on Dec. 4.

Both Lamar University basketball programs were picked to finish at the top of the Southland Conference standings. And if early progress is any indication, the Cardinals could be looking at two conference titles.

The men’s team is now 5-1 after a 66-52 win over UTEP in El Paso on Nov. 27. The Cards, who got double-doubles from senior Zjori Bosha and junior Josh Nzeakor, jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back. The victory equals the best start for the Cardinals since the 2008-09 season.
