I have a very vivid memory of growing up under the tutelage of a strict, Baptist mother. Our family week included Sunday morning and evening church, Wednesday night prayer meeting, occasional revival services, and various other special events at the church. It also included daily Bible readings during; I read the “Good Book” cover to cover at least two times, even plowing through the early chapters containing all of the begats.

The announcement that freshman Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas was seeking the GOP presidential nomination was notable for a number of reasons beyond the fact he was the first declared candidate. With several candidates with Texas ties expected to enter the race, the drama will only heighten between now and the Texas primary to be held 11 months from now on March 1, 2016.
