Reading in the Book of 1 Samuel, we meet another of God’s chosen servants, Hannah, whose soul longed for a child. We learn she was a consecrated woman and had a good and faithful heart. For those that know the back of the book, we are aware that God honored her sincere request and allowed Hannah to become the mother of Samuel, the earliest of the great Hebrew prophets after Moses and the last of the judges. Her story breathes of her love and care for her firstborn.

Q. Does a store have the right to limit who may park in its parking lot? Isn’t this public property? Can I be towed for parking where I shouldn’t?

A. As a general rule, a parking lot is not public property. Nearly all parking lots are private property, and the owner of the lot may limit who may park in the lot. Whether you may be towed, however, is a different question.

Golden eye … The Art Museum of Southeast Texas invites everyone to Go for the Gold on Thursday, March 10, for a chance to win $10,000 in gold or other fantastic prizes at its annual reverse drawing. Join them in the “Goldfinger” theme this year, as they encourage guests to channel their inner spy and dress in James Bond inspired garb (that seems to mean black to this columnist).

This Pixie will stick by your side, but you’ll want to pick her up as fast as you can. Pixie is a 2-1/2-year-old, 9-pound female miniature dachshund/Chihuahua mix. Her owner surrendered her to the shelter because they were moving. Pixie is absolutely adorable! She has a doxie’s long body and muzzle but a Chihuahua’s taller legs. By far, her most fetching feature is her oversized ears.
