Remnants of pink and teal confetti are all that’s visibly left of the Gift of Life fundraising walk held Oct. 7 in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual event that not only raises awareness of deadly cancers but also serves as a celebration of life for those who have overcome breast and ovarian cancer. 

And although the event only runs one day of the year, the life-saving services funded by events such as the Gift of Life walk are in need year-round.

Early voting kicked off April 24 in Beaumont with just a trickling of its populace turning out to select city leadership. During the first three days of early voting for the May 6 election, just under 2,000 voters made their way to one of Beaumont’s five polling locations – Rogers Park, Beaumont City Hall, Beaumont ISD Administration Building, John Paul Davis Community Center, and Johns Library, with an added roughly 300 mail-in ballots received by election officials.

‘The Example’

The Port Arthur Public Library and the African American Cultural Society will host a screening of the historical fiction short film “The Example,” on Thursday, June 23, at the Port Arthur Library Gallery, 4615 Ninth Ave., Port Arthur, at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public. Children ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

If you’re looking for fast food that isn’t “fast food,” pass up the chain restaurants and cruise on over to Beaumont’s White Horse Bar & Grill for a dining experience unlike any other. Open daily 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., White Horse is conveniently situated close to Parkdale Mall on the city’s north end, but nestled away from mall traffic on the opposite side of the freeway.
