Icehouses are a Texas tradition. With origins dating back to the Civil War, they were originally used to store and distribute blocks of ice but began offering beer and other goods that needed to be kept cold, according to the Institute of Texan Cultures. Events were even hosted around massive tables built of ice.

While the open-air icehouse isn’t a new idea, Luke’s Icehouse Mid-County definitely has added a modern twist to an age-old concept.

Fans of Panda Express can now rejoice. The Chinese-American quick-serve chain restaurant opened in Beaumont on June 3 and is already seeing long lines of customers.For those who are familiar with Panda, everything should be business as usual, but many Southeast Texans are new to the restaurant, said Fufu Abdelsamad, general manager of the Beaumont Panda Express location.

The public is invited to come meet Miss Dallas Ashlea Gutierrez at a meet-and-greet Saturday, June 18, at Casa Tapatia Mexican Restaurant & Bar from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Gutierrez, a 2009 graduate of West Brook High School in Beaumont and a 2013 graduate of Texas A&M University, will be signing autographs for the public. Portraits of Gutierrez will be available at the event to have signed by the Miss Dallas 2016 winner.
