Jazz at the Lake returns on Thursday, June 16, at the downtown Event Centre (700 Crockett St.) from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a free concert from Dean James. James, a jazz sensation, literally calls Beaumont his home away from home. “I have a very huge fan base in the tri-city area of Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange,” said James, who was born in California and now resides in Houston.

Stage and screen star Kristin Chenoweth will perform at the Lutcher Theater (707 Main Ave.) in Orange on Tuesday, June 14, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $55-$90 and can be purchased online at lutcher.org. Chenoweth brings her Broadway hit voice to Orange to dazzle you with stories and song.

The Christus Live Well Women’s Conference drew an attendance of 2,000 people Thursday, May 12. This is the largest attendance number in conference history, according to Christus Southeast Texas Health System Marketing & Events Coordinator Becky Howard.

Texans no longer have to drive across the Louisiana border to get their gambling fix. Now, in the heart of The Big Thicket, just 17 miles east of Livingston, is a 15,000-square-foot gaming facility operated by Naskila Entertainment on the Alabama Coushatta Indian Reservation. A soft opening was held Tuesday, May 17, and a grand opening is set for Thursday, June 2.
