The Shrimp Lover (top) and Larry Judice

When a Texas-born butcher named Larry Judice planted his Louisiana roots in Groves and bought his father’s French market in 1978, Larry’s French Market was just a Cajun grocery store with a Cajun deli.

Back when the Logon Café first opened for business, things were different. The process of connecting meant “dialing up” for  5 to 45 minutes.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5219, setting aside an entire month for celebration of his favorite treat and designating an official day in honor of what he described as “the perfect dessert.”

July has been National Ice Cream Month ever since, and on the third Sunday of July, folks all over the country celebrate National Ice Cream Day. It’s July 19 this year.

The dust has barely settled from the Lutcher Theater’s 2010-2011 season and folks are already calling trying to purchase their season tickets for the 2011-12 season. This year’s lineup boasts some pretty big productions coming to our fair neighbors in Orange, and if we can make one recommendation, that would be to go ahead and get your tickets early.

After hanging out for dinner at Sartin’s Seafood Nederland for a few hours, we made friends with a lovely couple of characters named Jimmy and Snook several times over.

At first they were a little daunting to look at; well dressed, smelling wonderful and backed by a mountainous army of friends, we didn’t really know how to approach them. But finally, we got to know Jimmy and Snook and we will never forget them — they were delicious.
