In this color-coded comic book of a movie, green is good and yellow is bad — very bad — but it hardly adds up to box office gold. It’s not that this is a bad film. There is just nothing new here, and these days to launch a new super hero franchise, something extra is required.

I have a love-hate relationship with Woody Allen. But lately we’ve been all hearts and flowers. First the very British “Match Point,” then the Latin romance of “Vicki Cristina Barcelona,” and now the airy delicious soufflé that is “Midnight in Paris.” Allen seems an ex-patriot by now, he’s been gone so long. But we’re the better for it if this grand tour inspires him to create such wonderful little films as this.

There is a lot of monkey business in this movie, and I see a trend developing. First, the little pirate monkey in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” and now the cute primate that latches on to the lost boys of “H2.” One thing is for sure: If the show’s not funny, you can always cut to the monkey.

Aye, mateys, come aboard for another rousing pirate adventure with Jack Sparrow. That’s Capt. Jack Sparrow to you, as he reminds us frequently during this fourth installment of one of Disney’s most successful franchises. Already there is rumor of a fifth film underway, and with record-breaking box office earnings in its first weekend, it’s a sure bet you haven’t seen the last of Cap’n Jack.
